Launched in 2012, the extremely successful Golden Visa Programme has already allowed over 6000 people to obtain a Residency Visa in Portugal. By following a simple set of rules the applicant can obtain the Residency Visa which lasts for five years. After this time the applicant can apply for Permanent Residency and, after a further year, Citizenship. The applicant can also regroup his spouse (husband or wife) and children. The Children need to be below 18 years of age or in full time education.

The other benefit of the Golden Visa is the ability to travel freely within the Schengen Area. The Schengen Area comprises 26 European countries that have abolished the usual border control policies within it’s community.
